Anadigics Inc. has begun shipping production volumes of its AWT6223 UMTS/Edge penta-band power amplifier module for Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd's latest smart phone.

The SGH-I520, designed for the European market, is the first Samsung phone to use version 9.2 of the Symbian OS for speedy Internet access.

"We are very pleased to once again partner with Samsung," said Dr. Bami Bastani, president and CEO of Anadigics. "Anadigics' leading line of wireless broadband products and strategic relationships with tier-one manufacturers like Samsung allows us to be a constant provider of feature-full 3G handsets for the user who wants to talk, email or surf the Web from their mobile device."

The AWT6223 module is capable of halving UMTS average power consumption, resulting in longer batter life and talk-time. It offers outstanding efficiencies of 41 percent at +28.5dBm in WCDMA mode, and 21 percent at +16dBm in HSPA mode.

The module includes a fully functional quad-band GSM/Edge power amplifier, with excellent efficiency in the GSM850/900 bands and DCS/PCS bands in both GSMK and 8PSK modes. The multimode power amplifier relies on Anadigics' proprietary InGaP-Plus technology to integrate HBT and pHEMT devices on the same InGaP GaAs die.
