Nallatech, the domain expert in high-performance FPGA computing solutions, announced the development of its new Xilinx Virtex-5-based rugged embedded computing family.

This range is based upon industry standard form factors including VPX (VITA 46), VXS (VITA 41) and XMC and will feature rugged products to provide customers with industry-leading solutions for use in a wide range of operating environments. The combination of processing and I/O capabilities offered in this product family delivers a complete system solution for defense, aerospace and security applications, including signal intelligence (SIGINT), radar and software defined radio (SDR).

This rugged deployable product family leverages the latest processing and I/O technologies and delivers new capabilities to users. Xilinx Virtex-5 LXT and SXT FPGAs, with features including ExpressFabric technology, high-bandwidth on-chip memory and embedded DSP blocks, provide significant performance benefits, combined with low power consumption offered by 65nm triple-oxide technology.

"Over the last decade, Nallatech has developed a substantial global customer base that includes several of the major defense prime contractors. The deployable product family has been developed in direct response to demand from customers for application-ready technology and builds on the company's highly successful DIME-II and HPC product families," said Craig Anderson, Nallatech CEO. "We are working with a number of new and existing customers who are developing applications that will benefit from the capabilities of the new product range. In addition to the availability of rugged Virtex-5 capabilities, these products provide our customers with rugged solutions and an effective migration path from development to deployment."

"The adoption of Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGAs in this forthcoming range of Nallatech embedded computing products enables Nallatech customers to benefit from the advantages of 65nm that Virtex-5 offers, with DSP focused Virtex-5 SXT devices being of particular relevance to application developers in the defense and security sectors," said Per Holmberg, marketing director, programmable digital systems at Xilinx. "Xilinx is delighted to build on the relationship we have had with Nallatech over the years and this is the sixth generation of Xilinx Virtex series FPGAs that Nallatech has designed into COTS FPGA computing solutions."

Nallatech will be delivering Virtex-5-based products to customers in Q4 2007.
