austriamicrosystems has released a step-up DC/DC converter with an ultralow quiescent current in a small 5-pin TSOT package for battery-powered devices. The high-efficiency AS1323, with a quiescent current of 1.6?A and a shutdown mode drawing less than 200nA, is aimed at applications including medical devices that require long periods of minimal power consumption and a short period of high-current consumption.

AS1323 delivers a 100mA output current from a single AA battery with fixed output voltages of 2.7-, 3- and 3.3V, operating from an input voltage between 0.75-2V. The device offers an integrated unique low-voltage boot circuit which ensures start-up even with high load currents, said the company. The minimum start-up voltage of 0.95V is independent of the load current.

The step-up converter also features internal synchronous rectification which is said to ensure high efficiency and eliminate the need for an external diode, which saves cost and board space.

The AS1323 is available in a 5-pin TSOT23 package suitable for the industrial temperature range of -40C to 85C.

Pricing for the device starts at $ 1.38 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
