Adcore-Tech Co. Ltd, the joint venture established last year by NEC Corp., NEC Electronics Corp., Matsushita Electric Industrial, Panasonic Mobile Communications and Texas Instruments Inc., has started sampling mobile phone makers the W-CDMA baseband processor it was set up to develop.

The licensed architecture employs multiple small-scale DSPs to simultaneously achieve high peak performance, low power consumption, low cost and high portability.

The Japan partners said in July 2006 they planned to develop a framework for their mobile phone business that includes development of such a baseband chip as well as a common handset development environment backed by the Open Mobile Linux consortium that was also established last June.

Support was also designed in for the evolution of mobile handsets to higher data rate capability including HSDPA, HSUPA and LTE.

"This technology can minimize mutual interference when compatible formats are extended or integrated," Adcore-Tech said.
