If you're hungry for the latest embedded development tools, EDA solutions and test technologies, you may want to feast at the 7th Embedded Systems Conference-Taiwan (ESC-Taiwan) and 15th EDA & Test-Taiwan Conference & Exhibition (EDA&T-Taiwan). ESC-Taiwan and EDA&T-Taiwan will gather the world's top vendors, and showcase a smorgasbord of fresh design and test solutions on August 23-24 at the Taipei International Convention Center.

Participants will also get the chance to meet embedded-systems and EDA tools vendors, experience new design technologies hands-on, and attend the conference program featuring a keynote address, summits and vendor seminars.

This year's summits will tackle technical issues and future trends surrounding the topics of "Winning the Race for Multimedia Quality" and "Powering Down." Vendor seminars, meanwhile, will open the floor for technical managers and Taiwan's design engineers to discuss design trends and solutions for various sectorsembedded system development, communications and multimedia, automotive electronics, EDA, test and measurement, industrial PC, and memory and security designs.

Among industry leaders hosting the vendor seminars are Atmel Corp., Intel Microelectronics Asia Ltd, ARM Holdings plc, Renesas Technology Taiwan Co. Ltd, NXP Semiconductors, Wind River, National Instruments Corp. and Advantech Co. Ltd.

Thirst for new solutions
Embedded system designers in Asia expect a slight increase in design activity this year, according to EE Times-Asia's survey among embedded developers. In Taiwan, engineers started about 4.57 projects in 2006, cancelled 1.25 and plan five this year.

EDA tools, on the other hand, are increasingly becoming more important to the entire electronics industry. Moore's Law still serves as the industry's growth driver, as it ushers in changes and challenges. Thus, designers constantly face new hurdles. And as new market demands emerge, engineers need to keep themselves updated with the latest technologies and solutions in order to differentiate their products and beat time-to-market demands.

At this year's ESC- and EDA&T-Taiwan, a variety of top vendors' latest design solutions as well as embedded development and EDA tools will take centerstage, giving a taste of fresh technologies and methodologies to design engineers.

MIPS Technologies Inc. will display its line of embedded microprocessors ideal for SoCs. Meanwhile, Renesas will showcase its semiconductor system solutions for mobile, automotive, PC and A/V markets. It will also feature its MCUs, LCD driver ICs and RF ICs, among others.

Atmel will exhibit its MCU families, including standard products like C51, an ARM-based MCU and its proprietary AVR. The company will also showcase its serial flash memory and security products, including CryptoMemory, TPM and Biometrics.

Spansion Inc. will display its broad selection of NOR memory products. Meanwhile, fabless semiconductor company ON Demand Microelectronics will show SVENm, a fully integrated standalone multimedia solution for next-generation mobile devices.

Tensilica has two major product lines that will be seen at the exhibition: Xtensa processors, which allow designers to configure the processor to add memories, I/O and special functions, and its Diamond solution, which provides drop-in, ready-to-use controllers, DSPs and A/V codec solutions.

Serving software
MontaVista Software Inc. (Taiwan branch) will exhibit its MontaVista Linux Professional Edition for embedded devices, which provides OS real-time functionality, multiprocessing and multithreaded execution. The company will also display MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition for communications infrastructure and Mobilinux for mobile devices.

Device software optimization company Wind River (Taiwan branch) will showcase its Linux platforms (general purpose, and platforms for consumer devices and network equipment). The company will also present its general-purpose VxWorks platform, its other VxWorks platforms for network equipment, consumer, automotive and industrial devices, and its product development suites (Workbench Development Suite, Workbench Unit Tester and Workbench Diagnostics).

Ansoft Corp. (Taiwan branch) will exhibit Nexxim, which can be used for RF/mixed-signal ICs and high-performance SI applications. The EDA software development company will also showcase HFSS, its 3D EM simulation software tool for RF, wireless, packaging and optoelectronic designs. Q3D Extractor, Turbo Package and Ansoft Designer will also be displayed.

TM instruments
Agilent Technologies Taiwan Ltd will exhibit its test and measurement instruments as well as its life and science analysis tools. Meanwhile, NI will showcase LabVIEW, the company's graphical development environment for creating flexible and scalable test, measurement and control applications.

United Microelectronics Corp. will also be on the show floors of ESC- and EDA&T-Taiwan 2007. UMC, Taiwan's first semiconductor company, provides services for 90nm and 65nm process technologies, and offers resources such as silicon-validated reference flows, broad IP portfolio and libraries.

ESC-Taiwan is part of the world's largest event for embedded systems developers, the Embedded Systems Conferences series, while EDA&T-Taiwan is Asia-Pacific's largest and most established EDA event. Last year alone, the collocated shows' attendance reached 2,699 engineers and technology and industry experts.
