Stereo codec has dual PCM interfaces

Asahi Kasei EMD Corp. has launched the AK4671, a one-chip stereo codec featuring dual PCM interfaces for mobile device applications such as smartphones and portable navigation devices. AK4671 is the newest addition to Asahi Kasei's family of Audio2go products.

AK4671 is equipped with dual PCM interface to take an interface between a stereo codec and a base band IC/Bluetooth IC in case of recording and playback of voice or music. The PCM interface block integrates a sample rate converter that allows asynchronous mixing of audio and PCM data. Such makes the AK4671 well suited for applications such as Bluetooth headsets.

Using AKEMD's advanced ALC circuit, AK4671 can automatically adjust the recording volume of MIC or the output volume of music source used for cellphone ring tones. AK4671 integrates a circuit that emphasizes "the stereo experience" by clearing up the sound source when stereo music is played on devices with extremely small speakers, such as cellphones. AK4671 also features a built-in five-band equalizer for high-quality audio player.

The AK4671 device further provides a four-input selector that supports multiple analog sources, pop-noise-free stereo headphone amplifiers, general-purpose ADC for DC measurements, a power supply management function permitting on/off control of circuits block by block and the microprocessor interface that supports both four-wire and I?C bus.

AK4671 provides sampling rates from 8kHz to 48kHz (PCM: 8kHz). The operating voltage of analog section ranges from 2.2-3.6V and digital section operates from 1.6-3.6V.

The device is housed in a 57-pin BGA package measuring 5mm x 5mm. Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
