XP Power unveils its latest product offering, the ECL series of ultracompact, low power AC/DC power supplies. Two series are available in the range, the 10W ECL10 and the 15W ECL15. Both supplies are available in three mechanical formats: open frame PCB mount, encapsulated PCB mount and open frame chassis mount.

The ECL10 open frame PCB mount unit measures just 25.4mm x 50.8mm x 22.8mm (1 x 2 x 0.9-inches) and has a power density of 5.6W/inch3. XP Power claims that this is the world's smallest 10W AC/DC power supply in this type of package. The ECL series is designed to help manufacturers meet the specifications for designing compact, portable or fixed end products. Specifically, the units are perfect for low cost, low power applications where space is at a premium.

The ECL10 and ECL15 series are available with single output voltages of 3.30-, 5-, 9-, 12-, 15-, 24- and 48Vdc. Full power is supplied across the whole input voltage range of 85-264Vac or 120-370Vdc. The units operate across a wide range of temperatures, from -20C to 70C, with derating above 50C. The units operate at full power with convection cooling so there is no need for additional thermal components or fan cooling. The peak load capability of the supplies is claimed to be 130 percent of nominal, for up to 30s. Thus, for applications requiring higher peak power, the ECL series can be specified in place of higher power, more expensive devices.

The ECL10 and ECL15 are suitable for use in both Class I and II isolation systems, meaning they can be used with or without an earth connection. This makes it well suited for portable equipment or where a reliable ground source is not available. External filtering is not required since the power supplies already meet EN55022, level B for conducted and radiated EMC.
