Cambridge Display Technology Ltd (CDT), a developer of polymer LED (P-OLED) technology, has been awarded a $500,000 grant to develop EDA software for use in the application of organic thin-film transistors.

The grant has been awarded by the U.K. Department of Trade and Industry to a consortium including CDT and Silvaco International Inc., a supplier of technology computer aided design and EDA simulation software.

Organic thin-film transistors are used in displays and flexible displays based on plastic substrates and the project is expected to extend the use of EDA software to organic semiconductor materials and accelerate the development of low-cost fabrication techniques for organic displays on both flexible and rigid substrates.

"This is an important stepping stone in the transition of low-cost organic electronics from the laboratory onto the shop floor," said David Fyfe, CEOof CDT, in a statement.
