Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. (TAEC) has expanded its TransMemory family of USB flash memory devices supporting Windows ReadyBoost for use with Microsoft Windows Vista OS.

Developed by Toshiba Corp. (Toshiba), the TransMemory U2K Series includes Windows ReadyBoost functionality that enables users to boost system responsiveness of PCs running Vista by using USB memory as external memory. The Windows Vista OS allows qualifying USB flash drives enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost to provide additional system memory, thus making PCs more responsive.

The initial Toshiba TransMemory U2K Series USB flash drives include the U2K-001GT, U2K-002GT, U2K-004GT and U2K-008GT which offer 1-, 2-, 4- and 8Gbyte densities, respectively.

Toshiba has also developed the U2G-032GT, the 32GB Limited Edition high capacity device, which include Windows ReadyBoost.

Both the TransMemory U2K Series and 32Gbyte Limited Edition offers downloadable password lock system. Featuring USB1.1/USB2.0 Hi-Speed Compatible interface, the devices' power supply voltage is bus powered from the USB port.

The 8.5g TransMemory U2K Series devices measure 63mm x 18.5mm x 8mm while the 12g TransMemory 32GB Limited Edition measures 81mm x 20mm x 8mm. Both have an operating temperature of 0C to 50C, a storage temperature of -20C to 60C. Operational and storage humidity ranges from 5-95 RH (non-condensing).

The TransMemory U2K Series will be available in October. The 32Gbyte version is planned by year-end.
