BMW Group announced it would integrate embedded, handsfree telephone capability into future lines of passenger cars using a telephone kit from Peiker acustic GmbH, German provider of components in the area of communications technology, with wireless technology from Wavecom SA.
Peiker's in-board wireless telephone is based on Wavecom's Q2686 Wireless CPU, available in a GSM/GPRS Class 10 quad-band version.
Wavecom said its wireless CPU supports an Open AT Software Suite, a cellular development environment that is claimed to allow embedded standard ANSI C applications to be natively executed on the wireless CPU.
Peiker indicated that its engineers have ported BMW's telematics applications on Wavecom's embedded wireless CPU so that the driver and passengers are able to make "high quality, private or hands-free calls from the car."
