CSR has qualified its Bluetooth firmware to v2.1 of the Bluetooth specification. Version 2.1 + EDR is the latest version of the Bluetooth specification launched last July.

Also supporting Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) of up to 3Mbps, CSR's Bluetooth v2.1 products offer significant enhancements to end user experience, enabling easier, more secure and more power-efficient connection with other Bluetooth devices.

Among the features of version 2.1 include secure simple pairing and enhanced security against eavesdropping and "man-in-the-middle" attacks. Products compliant with the new standard also offers "sniff subrating," which increases the periods between sniffs to lower standby power consumption by as much as five times or more. The new version also features extended inquiry response, providing more information, more quickly, during the inquiry procedure to allow better filtering of devices before connection. Products compatible with version 2.1 will still be backward-compatible with older Bluetooth devices (back to version 1.1).
