Renesas unrolls 90nm flash MCU for automotive apps

Renesas Technology Corp. has announced the development of the 32bit SuperH Family SH72546RFCC, said to be the industry's first flash MCU to use the 90nm process. It is designed for the development of control programs for car engines, transmissions and similar applications.

The SH72546RFCC claims an industry-leading operating speed of 200MHz in a high-temperature environment with an operating ambient temperature of 125C required for automotive applications. In addition, its on-chip flash memory capacity ranks among the largest in the industry, the company said, enabling cutting-edge high-precision control to be implemented.

The SH72546RFCC is designed for control program development. Starting in 2008, Renesas Technology will develop a mass production specification product lineup based on the new device, offering performance, package and pin-assignment compatibility.

As the SH72546RFCC features full function and package compatibility with mass-production specification products, the user can carry out control unit design and program development using the device in the same way as a mass-production specification product, enabling speedy and seamless application to mass production devices, Renesas said.

Sample shipments will begin this October in Japan.

Renesas will be an exhibitor at the 7th Annual Embedded Systems Conference-Taiwan and 15th Annual EDA & Test-Taiwan Conference & Exhibition on August 23-24, 2007 at the Taipei International Convention Center.
