Lonovo Group Ltd has announced that it will sell a basic PC targeted at China's rural regions and for as low as $199, following Dell's announcement of low-cost PCs in March.
This is according to a report from ShanghaiDaily.com, which quoted Lenovo spokesperson Jay Chen as saying that the company focus is to get down to the rural market.
Chen disclosed that unit will include a processor and keyboard and will use buyer's TV set as a monitor, but did not elaborate eon the processor size and other features. The PCs will be available later this year for $199-$399.
The spokesperson, however, denied that the company's offering was a response to Dell's initiative. Chen said Lenovo has been selling low-cost PCs for rural Chinese families since 2004. The company said it will set up a rural sales network of 5,000 dealers to reach farmers and other customers.
