Motorola Inc. and Wind River Systems have formed a strategic alliance designed to provide integrated AdvancedTCA (ATCA) and MicroTCA communication platforms with Carrier Grade Linux and VxWorks runtimes.
Under the agreement, Motorola's embedded communications computing business and Wind River will work together to deliver bundled hardware and software solutions for next-generation networking designs for the telecom, military and aerospace, medical and industrial automation industries. The companies will also provide joint customer support, as well as collaborate on product development and on driving joint value for industry initiatives such as OpenSAF high availability software, virtualization technologies and development environments for multicore processors.
"Collaborating with an industry leader like Wind River demonstrates Motorola's commitment to extend the benefits of leading-edge, multicore technologies such as MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA to our joint customers," said Stephen Dow, VP and general manager, embedded communications computing, Motorola. "It also enables us to offer our customers a choice of the best components from third party software providers, illustrating the strength and maturity of the xTCA ecosystem."
"Through our alliance, we expect to provide our customers with access to leading edge technology as well as a simplified path for them to adopt COTS hardware and software solutions," said Ken Klein, CEO and president of Wind River. "Implementing fully tested, integrated, and validated solutions from Motorola and Wind River will help our joint customers to accelerate application development for next generation Linux and VxWorks networking platforms."
