Programmable low-pass filters suit high-dynamic-range apps

Skyworks Solutions Inc. has launched a line of monolithic, digitally programmable low-pass filters in single- and dual-band versions. The SKY73201-364LF for single bands and SKY73202-364LF for dual bands are configured as sixth-order Butterworth filters to provide extremely high stop-band isolation while maximizing pass-band flatness and minimizing group delay distortion, said Skyworks.

The SKY73201-364LF and SKY73202-364LF devices are programmable in 1MHz steps from 1MHz to 28MHz, via the three-wire serial peripheral interface. Nearly ideal Butterworth performance is maintained over temperature and process via a proprietary internal calibration circuit that derives its timing accuracy from a 20MHz or 40MHz reference clock, according to the company.

The programmable low-pass filters are said to offer good linearity and low input noise, making them suitable for extremely high-dynamic-range applications such as adjacent channel rejection filters in direct-conversion receivers. Other applications include WiMAX customer premises equipment and base stations, software-defined radio basebands, HDTV tuners, medical imaging and flexible anti-aliasing and reconstruction filters.

Both filters have a completely differential interface, but may also be used in single-ended applications. They offer on-chip I/O drivers to allow easy integration between system components such as mixers, data converters and variable-gain amplifiers.
