Problems usually occur when you least expect them and at the most inconvenient moment during video production or testing. Video problems in the digital domain often seem to happen randomly and can be the most difficult to isolate and diagnose. Video monitoring and measurement equipment that can detect error conditions in the video signal are essential tools in dealing with these problems.

The ability to reconstitute the video data into multiple waveform displays is more useful than simple "freezing" of the waveform image and gives greater flexibility in identifying problems in the video signal. Using simple techniques, engineers can quickly troubleshoot errors in the video signal and help determine and isolate problems in the device or video signal path.

In this technical article, Mike Waidson, video applications engineer at Tektronix Inc., discusses more about troubleshooting video with frame capture and analysis.
