Linux software optimized for Intel network platform

MontaVista Software Inc. has launched the MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0 software based optimized for use on the Intel IXP435 multiservice residential gateway reference platform. The IXP43X network processors allow ODM/OEMs to create and deliver feature-rich quadruple-play multimedia services and enhanced embedded applications.

"With this release, engineers using MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0 with the Intel IXP435 processor will have the distinct advantage of an off-the-shelf solution combined with the control of an in-house built Linux solution," said Jim Ready, CTO and founder of MontaVista. "Pro 5.0 offers developers a platform to innovate enhanced features for networked media devices, wireless routers and VoIP routers."

The MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0 is said to be one of the most widely deployed commercial Linux development platforms available today. Developers can speed development and take advantage of the capabilities of Intel's IXP435 processor. The MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 5.0 offers simplified migration from the Intel IXP425 processor platform and small software footprint and advanced power management capabilities. It is also supported by the Intel IXP400 Software Access library for Linux and features Dev Rocket 5.0 development tools.

MontaVista will be participating at the 7th Embedded Systems Conference-Taiwan (ESC-Taiwan) and the 15th EDA & Test-Taiwan Conference & Exhibition (EDA&T-Taiwan on August 23-24 at the Taipei International Convention Center.
