AMD rolls dual-core chip for consumer channel

AMD has unveiled the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor 6400+ Black Edition, said to be the first enthusiast dual-core X2 processor targeted at the consumer channel.
With this latest product offering, AMD now offers the consumer channel an expanded dual-core desktop processor line up with advanced dual-core computing benefits, across an even broader price and performance range.
Boxed in collector's packaging and targeted towards gamers, enthusiasts and digital content creators, the new dual-core processor is said to meet the needs of sophisticated performance users who run multiple processor-intensive applications simultaneously.
The 3.2GHz dual-core processor features an integrated 128bit dual-channel memory controller, DDR2 memory up to and including PC2 6400 (DDR2-800) unbuffered memory and a dedicated 2MB L2 cache. The new processor is now available in North America, Japan, Korea and some parts of Europe. Pricing starts at $251 (without a fan) for processor in a box.
AMD is participating at the 7th Embedded Systems Conference-Taiwan (ESC-Taiwan) and the 15th EDA & Test-Taiwan Conference & Exhibition (EDA&T-Taiwan on August 23-24 at the Taipei International Convention Center.
