Two of Japan's biggest technology firms, Toyota and Sony, are teaming up in robotics to develop an intelligent, single-seat vehicle, according to an Associated Press report.

The companies, however, clarified that they will not revive Sony' Aibo dog robot. Sony spokesman Tomio Takizawa said that the technology for Aibo and Qrio is still kept in-house at its electronics and entertainment company.

Sale of the technology from Sony to Toyota, which includes key patents, was completed this year and applies to the next-generation "transporter," the companies said. Financial details were undisclosed.

Toyota spokeswoman Kayo Doi disclosed that seven Sony researchers are temporarily working at Toyota's partner robot research unit to help relay the technology.
