FMD transmitter module

Fujitsu Media Devices Ltd (FMD) has developed the T0311QZ1950 (Band I), T0311QZ0836 (Band V), and T0312QZ1880 (Band II) compact, high-performance transmitter modules for W-CDMA cellphones.

The device uses a proprietary duplexer and filter, which enables optimal design and high power efficiency level at 27 percent, FMD claimed. The transmitter modules also support three output power modeshigh, middle, and low.

In addition, the transmitting circuit components of the handsetpower amplifier, SAW filter, and SAW duplexerare built into a single unit, allowing the modules to achieve a compact size of 7mm x 4.0 mm (with a maximum height of 1.2mm). This enables nearly 30 percent decrease in the circuit area when compared to modules configured using conventional discrete components.

These transmitter modules also support high speed downlink packet access, which serves as the base for 3GPP Release 5, for downlink speeds of up to 14.4Mbps. FMD is also planning to develop transmitter modules for Bands IV and VIII in an effort to further strengthen its product lineup.

The three new transmitter modules are available at sample price of $10. Shipment of T0311QZ1950 and T0311QZ0836 will begin on September while T0312QZ1880 will start on October. FMD targets sale of 1.5 million units per month from January 2008.
