Micrel Inc. has launched the SY88973BL, a low-power limiting post amplifier for use in fiber-optic receivers.

The SY88973BL is suited for 1.25Gbps and 2.5Gbps Gigabit Ethernet; 1.062Mbps and 2.125Gbps Fibre Channel; Gigabit interface converter, small-form-factor (SFF) and SFF-pluggable transceivers; parallel 10GbE; and high-gain line drivers and line receivers in the telecom/datacom and optical-transceiver markets.

The SY88973BL incorporates a loss-of-signal (LOS), open-collector TTL output with an external pull-up resistor. The IC offers multirate capability from 622Mbps to 3.2Gbps. It also features internal 50m data input and low-noise 50m CML data output. Micrel touts chatter-free OC-TTL LOS output with programmable LOS sensitivity using a single external resistor.

Available in a 3mm x 3mm, six-pin MLF(R) package, the device operates from a single 3.3V,

10 percent power supply over an industrial temperature range of -40C to 85C.

Pricing is $3.31 for 1,000-unit quantities. The amplifier is now available in volume quantities. A free evaluation board is also available.
