Perform hassle-free test for safety-critical apps

Keywords:automated test equipment? safety-critical application test? in-circuit test?

Test requirements for electronic manufacturing have changed quite dramatically in recent years. Few companies are willing to invest significantly in test organization, especially in non-safety critical environments. White and grey goods do not inspire companies to invest in test. The cost of doing any real test besides that for safety pushes the limits of investment for manufacturers of these products.

However, in the safety-critical and performance test world, things are different. This is a world where qualification testing is mandatory, and there are still those who must strive for higher quality in a six-sigma environment. Against a backdrop of reducing costs and increasing quality, increasing throughput and reaching the market window have never been more important.

Any investment in test by safety-critical market segments has to be considered well, since low cost and high quality have never really coexisted. It's true that there will always be cheap solutions. However, on closer inspection, the hidden costs will be revealed. Poor-quality hardware, unsupportable software and poor interconnect during the test run are a manufacturers' nightmare. These shortcomings lead to test instability and false results. The net result is poor customer satisfaction.
