Germany-based Osram GmbH has granted Seoul Semiconductors license to manufacture and sell white LEDs with conversion technology using patents owned by Osram Opto Semiconductors. In return Seoul Semiconductors granted Osram license to use its housing patents.

Conversion technology enables the production of white LEDs using blue emitting InGaN-based chips and suitable fluorescent converter. With the agreement, Seoul Semiconductors has the right to use the Osram IP in white LEDs of all sizes, in all output categories and for all areas of application. Osram has aslo signed royalty bearing license agreements with various companies including Rohm, Everlight, Lite-On, Harvatek Vishay, Samsung Electrics, Yashin and Citizen.

"Today's agreement is a perfect example for a productive and fair collaboration. International courts have ruled on our favor in many cases," stated Gerd Pokorny, senior VP, Osram.
