Startup CellMetric is launching a DVB-H composer application to generate test transport streams at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam.

Founded in 2005, the privately held group specializes in developing micro base stations, repeater systems and I/Q RF signal sources for network emulation. The products are based on a software-defined digital radio architecture and "Application Specific I/Q" modules that allow customization using plug and play channel coders.

The parts, for self-measuring transmission systems, are based on a mix of fast processors, FPGAs and broadband RF radios.

The DVB-H Composer is a software application that creates DVB-H transport streams for play-out from CellMetric's Modus 3 RF player modulator. It enables the creation of complex DVB-H transport streams with an easy to use, software application running on a Windows PC. The transport streams created can then be directly fed into a CellMetric Modus 3 player modulator for RF play out.

According to Graham Norgett, CEO of the company, this is "the easiest, quickest, most cost effective way to produce DVB-H streams."

Composer takes multiple H.264 video and AAC audio files and produces a transport stream containing DVB-H audiovisual IP datacasts. Files can also be added as FLUTE data download services. The application includes an ITU-T G.1050 network model which can simulate impairments such as packet delay and packet loss before the IP traffic is encapsulated in MPE streams.

In addition, IBC also sees the launch of CellMetric's RADIUS 4 DVB-T/H micro base station, designed for infill for local coverage in public buildings, underground stations and emergency transmission scenarios, as well as trials systems for low power stand-alone base stations.

Inputs can include ASI and Optical ASI transport stream interfaces, RF interfaces for DVB-T or DVB-S/S2 and flash disk for pre-recorded streams. Radius 4 supports generation of signals at RF in the UHF TV and L bands.

The company will also be highlighting a DVB-S/S2 satellite and combined GPS receiver for its Modus 3 DVB-T/H player modulator.
