RAiO Technology Inc. has released a new version of LCD controller ICs, dubbed RA8835A, which can display text and graphics on monochrome STN LCDs.

The RA8835A supports resolutions up to 640 x 256pixels, it can display layered text, graphics and combined text/graphics display modes. It also includes functions such as smooth horizontal and vertical scrolling, blink, partial the display into multiple screens and programmable cursor control.

The controller incorporates external CGROM that can display up to 256, 8 x 16pixel characters, and 64, 8 x 16pixel characters in external CGRAM. Its internal mask programmed character generator ROM also allows 160, 5x7 characters display on LCD panels.

The RA8835A supports three 6800 and 8080 family microprocessor interfaces, also features transferring data from the controlling microprocessor to the buffer memory, reading memory data, converting data to display pixels and generating timing signals for the buffer memory.

The RA8835A is fully compatible with Epson-SIDI3305 LCD controller. With the RA8835A, SIDI3305 users can easily replace this new controller for their applications without modify existing LCD modules or PCB layout, further reducing development cost. And the newer manufacturing process makes this new IC deliver better features at lower power consumption, said RaiO Technology.

Samples of RA88 series and RA8835A are available now.
