Anadigics Inc. announced it is shipping production volumes of its new AWT6321R dual-band CDMA power amplifier (PA) module to LG Electronics (LGE) for the new Chocolate handset.

The AWT6321 is one of Anadigics' second-generation High-Efficiency-at Low-Power (HELP2) family of CDMA power amplifiers, which deliver low quiescent current and significantly greater efficiencies at power levels where the phone operates most of the time. HELP2 products include a built-in voltage regulator that eliminates the need for an external reference voltage and associated switches in the phone design.

"HELP2 products like AWT6321R consume up to 50 percent less battery power than conventional 2-state power amplifiers over the full range of powers in modern CDMA networks," said Prasanth Perugupalli, Anadigics' CDMA product line manager. "Reducing PA current requirements makes battery power available for longer talk times and better multimedia experiences in advanced phones like the VX8550."

Ali Khatibzadeh, senior VP and general manager of Anadigics' wireless business unit, added that the compact 3mm x 5mm dual-band CDMA PA requires 25 percent less board area compared to other single-band PAs, enabling LGE to pack more multimedia features into slimmer handset designs.

The AWT6321 also incorporates Anadigics' InGaP-Plus technology for reliability, temperature stability and ruggedness and is RoHS compliant.
