FDMS9600S, FDMS9620S

Fairchild Semiconductor's FDMS9600S and FDMS9620S are two highly integrated modules that significantly reduce board space while providing the ability to achieve higher conversion efficiency in synchronous buck designs.

Each module in the FDMS96xx series combines a high-side and low-side n-Channel MOSFET and one monolithically integrated Schottky diode into a single, space-efficient, 5mm x 6mm MLP package. This integration results in a highly efficient solution for severely space-constrained applications such as notebooks, small form factor desktops, media center PCs, ultradense servers, blade servers, advanced gaming systems, graphic cards, networking and telecom equipment, and other DC/DC designs.

Each FDMS96xx module integrates three separate discrete components into a single MLP package, thus saving more than 50 percent board space. Conventional synchronous buck converters typically include two SO8-packaged MOSFETs and one Schottky diode.

The FDMS96xx series also offers a thermally efficient solution due to careful selection of the modules' internal MOSFETs to thermally balance both the high- and low-side FETs for optimal temperature distribution within the package. By distributing heat uniformly throughout the device, the overall temperature of the package surface is minimized. This, in turn, reduces heat in the actual system, an important benefit in applications such as notebooks or ultradense servers.

The pin-out of the FDMS96xx series has been designed for a direct and easy connection in PCB layouts to standard PWM controllers. This innovative package concept shortens design time and reduces parasitic inductances in board layout traces, improving overall system efficiency.

Key benefits of the FDMS96xx series include 50 percent space savings compared to conventional discrete solutions, higher conversion efficiency solution compared to conventional discrete solutions and ease of board layout to simplify designs and accelerate time-to-market.

Fairchild Semiconductor's FDMS96xx family of products includes two members: FDMS9600S housed in 5mm x 6mm MLP with 12A-16A Iout max and 7m次 - 4.5m次 RDS(ON) at 10V, and FDMS9620S packaged in 5mm x 6mm MLP featuring 7.5-10A Iout max and 18m次 - 9m次.

The FDMS96xx series utilizes Pb-free terminals and has been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. All of Fairchild's products are designed to meet the requirements of the European Union's Directive on the restriction of the use of RoHS.

Pricing for 1,000 pieces for the FDMS9600S starts at 90 cents and at 50 cents FDMS9620S sells.
