Elektrobit, a Finnish communications group, has commenced the selling of a base station interface tester that supports both Mobile WiMAX and 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) specifications. Target clients include chip developers, equipment suppliers and network providers.

According to the company, the tester, developed in conjunction with the Centre for Wireless Communications, the research organization also based on Oulu, is said to be the first commercial test tool offering comprehensive support for verifying OBSAI RP3, RP3-01 and RP1 (timing) interfaces.

OBSAI is the Open Base Station Architecture Initiative aimed at specifying and certifying interfaces between various functions within base stations. RP1 includes control data and clock signals to all blocks. RP3 interface provides transport for air interface data between baseband and RF blocks. RP3-01 is an extension to RP3 designed for data transfer between base station and remote RF units.

Elektrobit says with the addition of software support for formatting reference data according to WiMAX and LTE dual bitmap algorithms, the interface tester will speed up development of these application

It adds the triggering options of the integrated logic analyzer are extended with the capability to detect dual bitmap algorithm errors in received RP3 data.

The tester supports simultaneous testing of two RP3 or RP3-01 links at line rates of 768, 1536 and 3072Mbps, as defined by OBSAI. It can operate both in master and slave modes for RP1 synchronization and timing. Received interface data can be captured according to user defined triggering rules and viewed as waveforms in the logic analyzer's window. Elektrobit adds the tester enables the development and verification of RF or baseband modules individually without the presence of other base station modules. The applications also include analysis of RP3 and RP3-01 data transmission between modules, supporting system integration and enabling monitoring and analysis of field operation.
