A power relay that provides up to 40A switching capacity per pole on the normally-open (NO) contact has been introduced by Omron Electronic Components LLC. The resistive load rating is 40A at 440VAC for NO contact and 25A at 440VAC for normally-closed (NC) contact. The G7Z relay is available in 12VDC or 24VDC coils and maintains a dielectric withstand of 4,000VAC between coil and contacts. The power relay provides an inductive load rating of 22A at 440VAC on the NO contact (Power factor =0.3). The G7Z is available in 2-FormA+2-FormB, 3-FormA+1-FormB, and 4-FormA pole configurations. The 4-FormA version offers a maximum current carrying capacity of 160A when each NO contact is wired in parallel.

The G7Z features an auxiliary contact block with "mirror contacts". The form types of the auxiliary contact block are 2-FormA, 1-FormA+1-FormB, and 2-FormB. When using a G7Z relay with a Form B mirror contact, the user can achieve a 2.5kV impulse withstand voltage or maintain a gap of 0.5mm when the coil is de-energized, even if one or more of the main NO contacts are welded, said Omron. This makes the relay with a 1-FormA+1-FormB or a 2-FormB auxiliary contact block suitable for output control in a safety circuit, as it meets the requirements of EN60947-4-1.

The G7Z can also be used in inverter, solar/fuel battery, and uninterruptible power supply applications. It's also a good fit for three phase applications when using 3-FormA+1-FormB or 4-FormA models.

The G7Z measures 62mm x 45mm x 84mm, 35 percent smaller than typical contactors, said Omron. In addition, power consumption of 3.75W, or about 50 percent less than typical contactors, and its low noise characteristic of 70dB is about 30 percent quieter than those contactors. The electrical life is 80,000 operations for an AC resistive load of 40A at 440VAC (NO contact), or 100,000 operations if switching a DC resistive load of 5A at 110VDC (NO contact). It can also be panel or DIN rail mounted.
