Leadis beefs up AMOLED strategy with IP purchase
Keywords:active-matrix OLED? display drivers? intellectual property?
Analog and mixed-signal semiconductor company Leadis Technology Inc. has acquired intellectual property from Nuelight Corp. that will add value in its development of active-matrix OLED (AMOLED) display drivers. The acquired technology improves manufacturing yields by correcting non-uniform brightness without increasing backplane complexity and improving the lifetime of displays by correcting image sticking. With the use of Electrical Pixel correction algorithms, the patent-pending technology also enables the change of calibration of each pixel through the display driver.
"This acquisition represents a major milestone in Leadis' AMOLED strategy and will allow Leadis to offer our AMOLED customers leading display driver solutions," said Jose Arreola, general manager, display driver products. "AMOLED displays offer tremendous promise for higher quality displays in many high-volume applications. Leadis intends to be a proponent and key leader of this display technology as we design it into our display driver products starting in 2008."
