Renesas Technology Corp. has released the Renesas Technology Environmental Report 2007 that summarizes the company's environmental accomplishments for fiscal 2006 and goals for fiscal 2007.

As a core thrust of its corporate social responsibility program, the company engaged in a number of environmental initiatives for environmental preservation. Three specific areas promoted for environmental preservation and enhancement included the "eco-factory" initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save energy and achieve zero emissions in industrial waste; the "eco-products" initiative to increase the company's portfolio of environmentally friendly products through product assessments, and to manage the chemical substance content of products in conformity with applicable regulations, such as the RoHS directive; and, "eco-management" in the form of environmental accounting, audits and information management.

To reduce perfluorocompounds (PFC) emissions, Renesas is installing PFC abatement systems and is switching to alternative gases with lower global warming potential ratings. The company reduced PFC emissions by 14 percent in 2006 compared to its emission level in 1995, achieving the goal four years earlier than the industry target. Renesas has also achieved the 10-percent emission reduction goal one year earlier than the original 2007 target.

In anticipation of the China RoHS directive, which took effect March 1 this year, Renesas set up a database of the substances contained in its products and put in place a system for providing this information to customers quickly.

In addition, the company has implemented an environmental information management system that links to the chemical substance management system and waste management system (which began operating in fiscal 2004), and the waste disposal contractor database (which started in fiscal 2005), allowing information to be shared between the systems. This enables centralized management of environmental load evaluation data from all the company's production bases.
