Secure systems with fingerprint, facial ID

Keywords:fingerprint identification systems? facial recognition? biometrics technology?

Fingerprints have been used for a long time to verify identification. Although there are various ways to identify people, fingerprint identification has spread significantly due to the balance of features it offers, including high reliability, accuracy and solid cost performance.

NEC's fingerprint verification/identification software has passed several benchmark tests made by organizations such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the United States. Many think that the performance of fingerprint verification/identification is determined by software, which extracts the features of the fingerprint image of the claimant and compares them with the features of fingerprints registered in a reference database.

However, to carry out identification, the system needs to consider volumes of reference feature data from the registered database. Thus, performance of the identification software plays a significantly large role, but it is not the only factor in actual fingerprint systems. More important than the identification software is image quality under various illumination and skin conditions. Although the role of the fingerprint sensor device is significant, few are aware of the differences among fingerprint image capture devices available on the market today.
