The communications analog domain primarily consists of transceivers and amplifiers, which make signal transmission possible. According to Databeans Inc., communications analog is an $11.5 billion market, and thanks to the increasing demand for communications equipment worldwide, it is expected to reach nearly $22 billion by 2012, with most of the new revenue growth coming from the Asia-Pacific region.

The communications analog market can be classified as RF ICs or wireless, and wired products that include transceivers used in telecom signal transmission. Wireless products consist of power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers and also transceivers. Each product class has differing growth rates, but amount to an average annual revenue growth rate of 14 percent when combinedwell over the aggregated semiconductor industry average growth rate, which is estimated at 9 percent per year.

Product revenue is driven mostly by handset demand. However, due to market maturity of the handset segment, suppliers are turning to other markets to maintain margins and increase profits, such as multicarrier infrastructure, point-to-point access and industrial applications (Click to view Figure 3).
