Intel gets antitrust clearance to set up Numonyx

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has granted Intel Corp. antitrust clearance to from its flash memory joint venture firm with STMicroelectronics NV (ST), according to an Associated Press report.

The FTC has given early termination on Oct. 17 of the waiting period required under the Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust law.

Intel and ST announced in May a flash memory JV, named Numonyx, which will combine the companies' R&D, manufacturing and marketing skills. Intel will have 45.1 percent equity of the JV company while ST will take 48.6 percent.
