Panasonic, the brand by which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd is known, has announced the sample shipment of a new-generation UniPhier system LSI (also called PH1-ProII, MN2WS0038) starting this month. This is the device in which next-generation AV data codec technology is applied to Panasonic's digital CE integration platform.
The new-generation UniPhier uses the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264. It can compress full-HD large image data down to one-third or one-half its original size while maintaining high definition. It also extends the recordable time significantly for the same media, and can realize smooth image data communication.
To mount the next-generation codec on a system LSI, more elements than before must be formed on a limited space: 250 million transistors are actually integrated onto a single chip.
In addition, it is vital to keep down the power consumption when the number of elements increases. Sample shipment of the new-generation UniPhier system LSI is made possible through the 45nm process technology for much higher integration density than before.
Sample price depends on quantity.
