Epson Imaging Devices Corp. says it has developed an all-in-one LCD with an integrated cover (tempered glass or acrylic) and touch panel (resistive or capacitive). The LCD takes advantage of the company's Photo Fine Vistarich wide viewing angle technology, which enables it to produce good images even when viewed from 90 from the top, bottom, left or right.

Epson Imaging Devices has developed all-in-one LCDs in which the LCD panel, cover and touch panel are combined without an air gap, thus preventing the loss of brightness and contrast that occurs when covers and touch panels are attached to LCDs with air in between. Thanks to their composite structure, the newly developed displays enable improved visibility and greater strength in a slimmer, more compact design.

The all-in-one touch-panel LCDs feature high visibility thanks to an all-in-one optical design that reduces brightness/contrast loss and prevents glare, exceptional strength and durability from newly developed structure and materials, narrow frame (on par with those of ordinary LCDs) and slim-line design achieved through a newly developed proprietary structure.

Main features
The integrated displays feature high visibility (optical design combines LCD with cover and touch panel) that achieves high visibility through all-in-one optical design. Tapping newly developed structure and materials optimized for maximum strength, the displays tout strength and durability.

The displays also tout a narrow frame down to a minimum width of 1.5mm (on par with those of non-touch-panel LCDs) with metal material and wiring optimized to achieve narrow frame equal to those of nontouch-panel displays. With a 1.8mm slim-line design, the product enables a change in structure of LCD panel and touch panel/cover, driving sleek, slim-line designs.

The new displays come in two flavors: the 480 x 800pixel, 3.1-inch WVGA LCD (prototype) and the 800 x 480pixel, 7-inch WVGA LCD (prototype). Both have a display mode of Photo Fine Vistarich, transmissive and 160/160 (CR>100) viewing angle.

Epson Imaging Devices will exhibit the new device at FPD International 2007, which runs from Oct. 24-26 at Pacifico Yokohama in Japan.
