Hitachi Ltd last week announced it is withdrawing from the home PC business, according to a Reuters report. Hitachi, a pioneer of PC development in Japan, will discontinue development and production of home-use PCs amid stiff competition and slumping sales, the report said.

The company said it has not developed PC models for the year-end shopping season and it currently has no plans of developing any future models.

"We have stopped assembly of Prius brand PCs at Toyokawa factory" in Aichi Prefecture, said a Hitachi's spokesman. "We will continue maintenance services for already sold PCs."
