Murata Electronics North America rolls what it claims the industry's smallest RF, surface-mount switch connector for wireless applications. Measuring 2.5mm x 2.5mm x 1.4mm, the SWF series is designed to test microwave frequencies throughout a product's development stage up to final production.

The small footprint makes the RF connector suitable for cellphones, smart phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), global positioning satellite (GPS) and measurement equipment. The SWF series can also be used for advanced devices such as wireless local area networks (WLAN), WiMAX, UWB, Bluetooth and Zigbee technologies.

The switch connector's test probes are compatible with the larger SWD series connectors, which eliminates the need to change test probes when transitioning to the smaller SWF series. It also makes it easier for engineers to incorporate the connector into designs. Other key features include its wide operating frequency from DC to 6GHz, insertion loss of 0.1dB maximum to 3GHz and high durability for engagement (100 cycles).
