Keywords:Atmel ASTRI collaboration? customizable microcontrollers? IP design software?

Atmel Corp. and Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Ltd (Astri) will join forces bringing together Atmel's CAP customizable ARM MCU and ASTRI's design expertise, IP blocks and software. The collaboration in the realm of Astri's Low-power MCU Design Platform project that aims to lower the technical entry barriers for companies undertaking MCU-based SoC designs for specific applications.

In the terms of agreement, ASTRI, incorporating IP blocks from its libraries will support clients in transforming their design specifications into netlists for the metal programmable portion of the AT91CAP customizable MCU. The netlists will be validated on the AT91CAP emulation board by mapping them onto the built-in FPGA, before being transferred to Atmel for placement and routing, and metal programming of the AT91CAP platform. Astri will perform post-layout simulation prior to customer signoff for fabrication.

Remarked Raymond Chiu, Astri's VP and R&D director of IC designs group, "With Asia Pacific especially China fast becoming the world's major electronics system producer and consumer, system-on-chip solutions were needed to fuel the growth. Microcontroller solutions with a rich library of IP and fast cycle time integration and verification platform as provided by Atmel's CAP customizable microcontroller solution is critical to achieve time-to-market for such SoC solutions."
