16bit RISC controller targets large-screen LCDs

Seiko Epson Corp. has unveiled the S1C17801, a 16bit RISC controller designed for applications that require analog input, large-screen full-graphic LCDs and various types of interfaces.

The S1C17801 features 48MHz high-speed operation, large-capacity 128Kbyte built-in flash ROM and VRAM equipped with built-in STN LCD controller that supports monochrome display with up to 16 gradations using frame rate modulation. The device also includes a USB function controller that supports USB 2.0 full speed mode, autonegotiation function and is equipped with programmable FIFO.

S1C17801 RISC controller supports universal Inter-IC sound bus interface and features 16bit x 16bit + 32bit MAC that makes audio processing easier. It also supports connection of external audio ADC/DAC and input/output of ADPCM audio data. A real time clock that operates on independent power source has time counter, calendar, wakeup output terminal and standby input terminal that enable standby control. A battery backup RAM supports retention of general-purpose RAM when main circuit power is switched off.

In addition, the controller is equipped with 16-bit PWM capture timer/counter and high-current output controller that supports inverter controls such as IGBT. The S1C17801 also features infrared remote carrier transmission circuit for various carrier frequency settings.

Volume shipments, with a monthly output of 500,000 units, are scheduled to begin in December 2007.
