NXP-Sony's Moversa to champion U-SAM cause

Moversa is the new company to keep track in the realm of contactless smart card solutions. Created by NXP Semiconductors and Sony Corp., the joint venture will champion the global adoption of contactless applications in mobile phones using NFC. Moversa will plan, develop, produce and market a secure chipthe Universal Secure Access Module (U-SAM)that incorporates NXP's MIFARE and Sony's FeliCa OS and applications, two of the most widely installed contactless smart card technologies in the world. U-SAM will also support other contactless OS and applications based on customer requirements.

Led by co-presidents Guus Frericks of NXP and Toshio Yoshihara of Sony, Moversa will be headquartered in Vienna, Austria. Total capitalization is $28 million. NXP and Sony will each have 50 percent share in the joint venture.
