BDFxxx0G

Rohm Co. Ltd has developed thermostat output temperature sensor ICs that electronically detect the temperature in electronic products requiring temperature control and circuits that generate heat including power supplies and motor drivers.

Normally, a thermistor or comparator is used for temperature detection. However, these devices require precision reference voltages and complicated circuitry.

Rohm's ICs integrate a high precision reference voltage source, comparator and constant current circuit with a temperature detection element into a single chip, simplifying circuit design and reducing costs. Two series are offered, the BDExxx0G (open drain, active low) that can switch between three levels, centered around the detection temperature (5C or -5C), and the BDFxxx0G series (open drain, active low), featuring 9-interval switching, also centered at the detection temperature (2.5C, 5C, 7.5C, 10C, -2.5C, -5C, -7.5C or -10C). This eliminates the need to stock multiple temperature ICsrequired when the detection temperature changes due to circuit modification or target operating environmentreducing costs while increasing design flexibility.

Features of the BDExxx0G series and BDFxxx0G series include:

Wide detection temperature range: (a) BDExxx0G Series: 15 types, from -20C to 120C, in increments of 10C; and (b) BDFxxx0G Series: 8 types, from -20C to 120C, in increments of 20C

Detection temperature switching function based on control pins: (a) BDExxx0G Series: switching among three levels, 5C or -5C, centered around the detection temperature; and (b) BDFxxx0G Series: switching among nine levels, 2.5C, 5C, 7.5C, 10C, -2.5C, -5C, -7.5C or -10C, centered around the detection temperature

High temperature detection accuracy: 4C (5C for 120C detection: BDE1200G, BDF1200G)

Low current consumption: 16?A typ.

Detection temperature hysteresis: 10C typ.

Output type: open drain, active low

Compact package types: (a) BDExxx0G Series: SSOP5 (2.9mm x 2.8mm x 1.25mm max) and (b) BDFxxx0G Series: SSOP6 (2.9mm x 2.8mm x 1.25mm max)

Samples of 90C and 120C detector units in the BDExxx0G series (priced at $3.5) and 100C detector models in the BDFxxx0G series (priced at $4.3) are available today. Mass production is scheduled for December.
