Tiny tact switches achieve long operational life

Keywords:tactile switches? ESD protection? longer operational life?

C&K Components has developed a series of ultraminiature, low-profile top actuated tactile switches, which the company claims offers the industry's smallest footprint with an integrated actuator (push plate), and a 50 percent longer operational life as compared to similar products.

The KMT series of tact switches provide an extended life cycle of 150,000 operations, and gold and silver plating options. The KMT switch measures 2.6mm x 3mm x 0.65mm with a 0.45mm body height, 0.2mm actuator height and 0.13mm travel. An integrated actuator for simpler button design yields a tactile ratio of 30 percent minimum, providing sharp feedback, said C&K.

The KMT tactile switches also offer a grounding pin option for ESD protection as well as actuation force options of 1.6N (tactile ratio 30 percent) for mobile devices and 1N (tactile ratio 10 percent) for hearing aids and headsets.
