Fairchild Semiconductor brings automotive control system designers more reliable solenoid control operation using less board space with the FDMS2380, a dual integrated solenoid driver (DISD) solution.

FDMS2380 is an intelligent, dual independent channel, low-side driver with built-in recirculation and demagnetization circuits designed specifically for driving inductive loads. Other integrated features include overvoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature circuits to protect the device as well as a diagnostics feedback pin. The FDMS2380 is packaged in 8mm x 12mm PQFN package.

Using a multidie approach, FDMS2380 integrates multiple control and power semiconductor die into a single, space-efficient package, delivering a reliable and compact design solution optimized for automotive and industrial solenoid applications.

Smart driver
Key features of the FDMS2380 include an independent dual channels in PQFN packaging which provides greater functionality in less board space than competing single channel and discrete solutions. According to Fairchild Semiconductor, the chip's diagnostic signal provides enhanced fault handling and protection. Its built-in overcurrent, overvoltage, overtemperature diagnostics prevent device failure. The chip also provides extended operating voltage that handles the automotive power bus without additional protection.

The FDMS2380 utilizes Pb-free terminals and has been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. All of Fairchild's products are designed to meet the requirements of the European Union's RoHS directive.
