RF connector interface suits Wi-Fi, WiMAX apps

Tyco Electronics Corp. has introduced the QSL (Quick Stripline) RF connector series that targets Wi-Fi (802.11) and WiMAX (802.16) enabled products and applications. The coaxial cable displacement interface is said to be a cost-effective alternative to standard screw-machine connectors for most cable-to-cable and cable-to-PCB applications.

The QSL connectors include both single- and multi-port versions with a wide range of configuration options including PCB and cable-mount receptacles, cable plugs terminated to RG 174 and RG 316 cable types, and cable assemblies terminated in IP-67 weatherproof housings.

The QSL interface is said to exhibit excellent performance through 6GHz, and features durability of 250 cycles for single port and 500 cycles minimum for 3-port QSL connectors. The operating temperature range is -40C to 85C.

The QSL is suitable for 50 applications such as PCI/PCIe cards and antennas for desktop PCs, mobile antennas and satellite radio. The plastic molding housings also facilitates fabrication of unique interfaces that comply with FCC requirements for RFID, broadcast and other wireless communication systems, said Tyco.

The platform is expandable with performance head room for new RF platforms and standards initiatives such as WiMAX, WIBRO, WIMEDIA, intelligent transportation, wireless broadcast and beyond. Features such as polarization and keying, jackscrews, low engagement and disengagement forces, as well as and squeeze-to-release versions and specialty hybrid interfaces are available. Designs are fully RoHS compliant.
