Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX8902A/MAX8902B, claimed to be the industry's smallest 500mA, low-noise LDOs. Packaged in A 2mm x 2mm TDFN, these devices provide up to 92dB PSRR (at 5kHz), 16?Vrms output noise and a 100mV (max) dropout voltage at full load (500mA). The MAX8902A/MAX8902B are suitable for noise-sensitive and space-constrained applications, such as smart phones, PDAs PMP/MP3 players, GPS devices and ultramobile/notebook PCs.

The MAX8902A/MAX8902B offer 1.5 percent output-voltage accuracy and a 1.7-5.5V input-voltage range. The MAX8902A features preset pin-selectable output voltages between 1.5V and 4.7V, and the MAX8902B allows users to adjust the output voltage between 0.6V and 5.3V using two external resistors. To maximize battery life, these devices consume a 80?A operating current and less than 1?A shutdown current. Other features include a programmable soft-start circuit to prevent high inrush currents, short-circuit protection, reverse-current protection and thermal shutdown.

Available in a thermally enhanced 2mm x 2mm, 8-pin TDFN package, the MAX8902A/MAX8902B are fully specified over the -40C to 125C automotive temperature range. Prices start at $1.25 (1,000-up, FOB USA).
