California Micro Devices Corp. (CMD) has expanded its product portfolio for mobile handsets with the addition of two ESD protection product families that address the needs of high-speed data interfaces in advanced handsets.

The CM1263 family, based on CMD's PicoGuard line of low-capacitance ESD protection products, is said to provide both robust ESD protection and excellent signal integrity for the high-speed serial data interfaces that are increasingly being used for display, imager and data ports. The CM1248 family, based on CMD's Centurion process technology, provides high levels of ESD protection and excellent signal integrity for high-speed data interfaces to memory and media cards. Products from both families are offered in compact packages.

The PicoGuard CM1263 family features 0.85pF input capacitance and protects against ESD strikes of up to 8kV contact discharge per the IEC61000-4-2 level 4 standard. The low capacitance of these devices makes them well-suited for protecting emerging interfaces such as MDDI, MIPI and MPL that connect the main modules (baseband, application processor, display and camera) in a wireless handset while preserving signal integrity, said CMD. The CM1263 family offers both two- and six-channel configurations. The two-channel CM1263-02SE is offered in a small form factor SOT-563 package. The six-channel CM1263-06DE is available in a 0.4mm pitch uDFN package.

The Centurion CM1248 family is suitable for protecting user accessible media cards, user interface keys and keypad assemblies, which require high levels of ESD protection and signal integrity, but are less sensitive to capacitance. They feature ESD protection up to 18kV contact discharge per the IEC61000-4-2 level 4 standard, with an input capacitance of 10pF to preserve signal integrity. The devices are offered in multiple channel configurations with compact packages that occupy 50-percent less board space than competitive offerings, according to CMD.

Sample pricing for the CM1263-02SE and CM1263-06DE are 12 cents and 22 cents each respectively in quantities of 1,000. The CM1248-04S9, CM1248-04QG, CM1248-04QF are priced at 10 cents each and CM1248-08DE is priced at 20 cents each in quantities 1,000.

All products are RoHS compliant and are currently available for sampling. Mass production is scheduled for Q1 08.
