Low noise, high accuracy typify DAC

Texas Instruments Inc. has developed a 16bit, single-channel, buffered voltage-output DAC that features excellent linearity (1 LSB max INL), low noise (24nV/rtHz) and fast settling time (5.0?s). Combined with low-power consumption of 5mW, the DAC8881 is suitable for industrial process control, automatic test equipment, data acquisition systems and communications applications.

The DAC8881 operates from a single +2.7V to +5.5V power supply and provides a unipolar output. The output voltage is based on the reference voltage selected and ranges from 1.25V to 5.5V, thereby allowing for use in many different applications, said TI. By using an external operational amplifier for offset, the device can also provide a bipolar output with 2's complement coding.

The DAC8881 supports a SPI serial interface capable of input data clock frequencies up to 50MHz with 1.8 V/3 V/5 V compatible logic, which enables communications with a wide range of DSPs, FPGAs and microprocessors. The device operates over an extended temperature range of -40C to 105C. Suggested resale pricing for the DAC is $10.00 each in quantities of 100. The DAC8881 is available now in a very small QFN-24 (4mm x 4mm) package. Evaluation modules will be available in Q1 08.
