Low-noise DAC targets DAQ, ATE

Texas Instruments Inc. has released the DAC8881, a 16bit, single-channel, buffered voltage-output DAC with a noise level of 24nV/rtHz and settling time of 5?s. Combined with a power consumption of 5mW, the device is suits industrial process control, ATE, DAQ systems and communications applications.

The DAC8881 operates from a single 2.7V to 5.5V power supply and provides a unipolar output. The output voltage is based on the reference voltage selected and ranges from 1.25V to 5.5V, allowing for use in many different applications. By using an external operational amplifier for offset, the device can also provide a bipolar output with two's complement coding.

In addition, the DAC supports a flexible SPI serial interface capable of input data clock frequencies up to 50MHz with 1.8V/3V/5V compatible logic which enables communications with a wide range of DSPs, FPGAs and microprocessors. The device operates over an extended temperature range of -40C to 105C.

The DAC8881 is available in small QFN-24 (4mm x 4mm) package for $10 each in 100-piece quantities. Evaluation modules will be available in Q1 2008.
