LSI Computer Systems Inc. (LSI/CSI) has introduced the LS7290, a low-cost precision stepper motor controller designed for two-phase bipolar or four-phase unipolar stepper motors with minimum burden on the host MCU.
The device can replace LSI/CSI's pricier L297 in most applications while providing more programmable micro-steps, according to the company. The LS7290 is capable of a large selection of step sizes, ranging between full and 1/32 step.
LS7290 features include a nominal clock frequency of 8MHz; a maximum stepping rate of greater than 30k per second; programmable inter-step blanking delays of 1.25?s, 2.5?s, 3.75?s, and 5?s at 8MHz; H-bridge PWM resolution of 0.39 percent; and supply voltage of 3V to 5.5V.
Price for the LS7290 is $1.15 for 1,000-unit quantities.
